The method involves deriving a power flow direction from a relation of a phase of measured magnetic fields to a voltage phase as a network phase or a reference phase of an integrated network. The network phase is measured directly in central locations. The network phase is estimated by averaging of the measured phase of the magnetic fields at points within the integrated network adjacent to the line or the line combination. A phase determined by magnetic field measurement and the reference phase are immediately or delayed locally or centrally compared over a global time reference.
