The drive train (1.1) has a combustion engine (2) with a drive shaft (3), and a step-by-step variable-speed transmission (4) with an input shaft (5) that is connected with drive shaft of the combustion engine over a friction clutch (13). A hydrodynamic retarder (7) is arranged at the drive side (14) of the step-by-step variable-speed transmission parallel to an output shaft (6), and stands in drive connection with output shaft over a rotor shaft (15) and a vertical drive (16). An electric machine (10) is provided with a rotor (11) and a stator (12), and is operated as motor and as generator.
