The motor vehicle (1) has an engine control device (12) connected with an additional control device (11) via a bus system (10). A cryptography module (9) converts information transmitted via the bus system into a pseudo random number using a hash algorithm. The cryptography module forms a string of the information transmitted via the bus system. The cryptography module is data-technically coupled to the bus system. A display and operating device (2) is coupled to the bus system via a display and operating control (3). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a motor vehicle.
