<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cap apparatus which can detect whether a cap operates normally or not, and a droplet discharge apparatus provided with the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The cap apparatus includes a cap 46 having a cap body 52 with disjunctivity tightly with an ink-jet functional droplet discharge head 14 and a cap base 53 supporting slidably the cap body 52 in a disjunctive direction in a state biasing in the tight direction, an elevating mechanism 42 moving the cap 46 to the functional droplet discharge head 14 relatively to the disjunctive direction, and a transmission type photodetector 44 constituting a detecting light path 77 in a gap between the cap body 52 and the cap base 53 in a distantly-positioned state and also, detecting the presence or absence of the cap body 52 in a state that the cap 46 is distantly-positioned from the functional droplet discharge head 14.
