PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring instrument for determining the horizontal attitude, without requiring proficiency in operation. SOLUTION: The measuring instrument can determine the horizontal attitude, with reference to the step bottom surface or upper end surface; slide pins (10C and 30B) mounted on the upper end surface (90C) are disposed slidably at both ends of bases (10 and 30); lower surface projections (10D and 30G) butted against the step bottom surface (90B) are disposed on the lower surfaces of both ends of the bases (10 and 30); and the measuring instrument is set at the horizontal attitude by the slide pins (10C and 30B), the upper end surface (90C) or lower surface projections (10D and 30G), and the step bottom surface (90B).
