<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pressure accumulation system for internal combustion engine capable of reducing discharge of exhaust energy from a pressure accumulation tank. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The pressure accumulation system 20 for internal combustion engine is equipped with the pressure accumulation tank 21 accumulating exhaust pressure in an exhaust pipe 5 and capable of supplying the exhaust pressure to a predetermined supply destination 7b, a gas passage 22 communicating the exhaust pipe 5 with the pressure accumulation tank 21, a flow control valve 23 provided in the gas passage 22, and a control means 30 for controlling an opening of the flow control valve 23. In the control means 30, (i) if the exhaust pressure in the exhaust pipe 5 is higher than a tank pressure in the pressure accumulation tank 21, the flow control valve 23 is opened at a first opening, (ii) valve closing is started so as to change the opening of the flow control valve 23 from the first opening to a second opening after predetermined timing, and (iii) if the tank pressure becomes a predetermined target tank pressure, operation is started to change the opening of the flow control valve 23 to a fully opened position.
