The device has an operating microscope (1) with an optics (5) for imaging a section of an operation field (6) on a camera (7) for capturing digital image data. The operating microscope is connected with a computer (9) for evaluating the digital image data. A positioning element is utilized for determining a current position of the camera and/or the optics, where the operating microscope cooperates with the positioning element. The positioning element is implemented as a transmitter (14), a receiver (15), an electrical coil or an acceleration measuring instrument.
