<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a white light emitting element having almost no color unevenness. <P>SOLUTION: The white light emitting element includes: a semiconductor layer 104 which has an n-type semiconductor layer 101, a p-type semiconductor layer 103, and a light-emitting layer 102 sandwiched between the n-type semiconductor layer 101 and the p-type semiconductor layer 103 so as to generate light and in which one of the main faces is a light-emitting face; a phosphor containing layer 114 containing a phosphor, which absorbs light generated by the light-emitting layer 102 so as to emit a fluorescence, and provided on the face, facing the light-emitting face, of the main faces of the semiconductor layer; and a reflecting layer 115 provided on the face, facing the face provided with the semiconductor layer 104, of the faces of the phosphor containing layer 114.
