PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smoke detector capable of stably detecting smoke. SOLUTION: The smoke detector includes: a smoke feature amount calculation means 30 for extracting a feature amount relating to smoke for each of a plurality of areas set in common inside a present image captured by a monitoring camera 1 and inside a reference image stored beforehand in a storage part 10; an each area smoke determination means 40 for detecting the area with the high possibility of smoke generation in each of the plurality of areas on the basis of the feature amount in the present image, the feature amount in the reference image and a prescribed reference determination value; and further a mapping determination means 50 for mapping the area determined as the area with the high possibility of smoke generation by the each area smoke determination means 40 for all of the plurality of areas every time the present image is captured and determining that the smoke is generated inside the captured present image when the state that the maximum separation distance between the mapped areas is not less than a prescribed value continues once or more.
