The invention relates to a two-part arrangement of a catalyst layer in a gas diffusion electrode, characterized in that a first catalyst layer having a thickness of > 5 µm and a catalyst load of 2 is arranged on a gas diffusion layer, and a second catalyst layer having a thickness of 2 is arranged on the first catalyst layer. In the method for producing said two-part catalyst layer of a gas diffusion electrode, a first catalyst layer having a thickness of > 5 µm and a catalyst load of 2 is applied to the gas diffusion layer, and a second catalyst layer having a thickness of 2 is then applied to the first catalyst layer. Alternatively, a first catalyst layer having a thickness of > 5 µm and a catalyst load of 2 is likewise applied to the gas diffusion layer, a second catalyst layer having a thickness of 2 is applied to a polymer membrane, whereupon the catalyst-coated gas diffusion layer is pressed onto the catalyst-coated polymer membrane at temperatures ranging from 110 to 150°C and a pressure ranging from 0.2 to 2.0 kN/cm2 in such a way that the two catalyst layers adjoin each other. Said two-part catalyst layer uses the same amount of catalyst as a one-part catalyst layer while having an improved conversion rate, especially because voltage losses are significantly reduced on a regular basis. |
