PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel pipe inner plug detection device having high reliability, capable of detecting surely and efficiently that an inner plug used for processing of the pipe end of a steel pipe is not left in the pipe. SOLUTION: This device includes a laser sensor 4 having a built-in projection optical system for irradiating laser light 6 and a built-in photodetection element 10, and a reflecting plate 5 for reflecting the laser light 6. The laser sensor 4 is arranged oppositely to one end opening part of the steel pipe W so that the laser light 6 irradiated from the projection optical system passes the inside of the steel pipe W and reaches the other end opening part, and so as not to interfere with a conveyed steel pipe W, and the reflecting plate 5 is arranged oppositely to the other end opening part of the steel pipe W orthogonally to the laser light 6, and so as not to interfere with the conveyed steel pipe W.
