PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat exchanger improved in gas-liquid separation effect. SOLUTION: The heat exchanger includes a pair of tanks 2 arranged so as to be spaced from each other and extending in the vertical direction; a plurality of heat exchanging tubes 4 arranged with intervals between both the tanks 2 in the vertical direction; and a vertically extending cylindrical liquid receiver 7 mounted to one of the tanks 2. The liquid receiver 7 includes a refrigerant inlet 31 and a refrigerant outlet 32 formed with intervals in the vertical direction with the former located above. A partition member 41 for vertically dividing the inside of the liquid receiver 7 is disposed at a height between the refrigerant inlet 31 and the refrigerant outlet 32 in the liquid receiver 7. The partition member 41 includes an overflow pipe 44 which makes the refrigerant flow to a section 43 below the partition member 41 after the level of the refrigerant in a segment 42 above the partition member 41 in the liquid receiver 7 reaches a specified level.
