<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continue a monitoring process during an upgrading process, regarding a method of making an upgrading without interrupting the monitoring process. Ž<P>SOLUTION: During the upgrading of a firmware which is executed by a processor 11 of a common control unit 2 of a communication apparatus 1, a monitoring process replacement terminal device 4 is connected and switching control is performed by the processor 11 so that the monitoring process replacement terminal device 4 performs a monitoring process in place of the processor 11. A processing of rebooting the processor 11 is performed so that a downloaded firmware of a new version can be performed by the processor 11. Before the rebooting is normally completed, the monitoring process is continued by the monitoring process replacement terminal device 4 using a path indicated by the dotted arrow. Once the process is normally completed, the processor 11 controls each portion so as to return to an initial controlled state of the path indicated by the dotted arrow, and the monitoring process replacement terminal device 4 is separated.
