PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely retrieve a telegraphic document having a geographical profile without making a user explicitly designate the geographical range of his or her interest. SOLUTION: An input analyzing means 3 confirms/analyzes a retrieval character string/geographical designation position input from a user terminal 2. When the designation position is the character string of the name of a place, a place name coordinate obtaining means 4 determines a coordinate value corresponding to the name of a place. Range calculation means 6, 8, and 9 estimate the range of interest according to the content (coordinate value, the character string of the place name, and the list of an orbit showing the movement of the coordinate value) of the designation position. A range calculation means 7 estimates the range of interest according to the retrieval document string. A range estimation means 5 estimates the range of the interest of the user from the estimation results of the range calculation means 6 to 7.
