IMAGE READER, METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE SAME, CONTROL PROGRAM, AND STORAGE MEDIUM

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of preventing an error in recognition of magnetic ink characters when the magnetic ink characters pass through a magnetic head while being inclined. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image reader includes: a magnetic reading means (step S101) for reading magnetic ink characters printed on a document as magnetic data: a magnetic character recognition means (step S103) for recognizing the magnetic ink characters based on magnetic similarities which are obtained through comparison between the magnetic data read and MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) dictionary information; a reading means (step S102) for optically reading the document's image as image data; a calculation means (step S104) for calculating the inclination angle of the image based on the image data read; and a final recognition process means (step S105) for finally recognizing the magnetic ink characters based on the result of recognition of the magnetic ink characters by the magnetic ink character recognition means and the inclination angle of the image calculated by the calculation means.
