A growth accelerating food for animals, e.g. chickens, turkeys, hogs, ducks, comprises a nutritionally balanced feed composition and one form of penicillin, e.g. salts of penicillin G, F, dihydropenicillin F, K and O. Potassium penicillin G, procaine penicillin and N, N1 disubstituted diamine salts of penicillin in which the substituent radicles are phenyl or substituted phenyl may be used. The penicillin may be present in an amount between 0.0001 and 0.01 per cent computed as sodium penicillin G on the weight of feed composition. Preferably, at least one part per million by weight of N, N1 dibenzyl ethylene diamine penicillin is added to the feed composition. The latter may contain 50-80 per cent cereals, 3-10 per cent animal protein, 5-30 per cent vegetable protein, 2-4 per cent minerals and vitamins which may include vitamin B12.
