A storage battery having filling openings with vented stoppers 3 and terminals 5 projecting above the cover 2 is provided with a lid 7 having depending partitions 8 forming separate enclosures for the filling openings and terminals. Ribs 13 on the cover 2 may overlap the partitions 8 as shown in Fig. i or they may abut one another. In the latter case the meeting edges may be bevelled to ensure correct positioning of the lid 7.
