摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery in which reduction of self-discharge characteristics of the battery can be suppressed, and in which a sudden occurrence of short circuit can be prevented even in the case the amount of manganese contained in a hydrogen storage alloy is reduced and a battery to charge and discharge a large electric current is used for a long period. <P>SOLUTION: In an alkaline secondary battery having an electrode body composed so that a belt state positive electrode plate containing a cobalt compound and a negative electrode plate having an active material containing manganese pinch a separator, the negative electrode active material contains 3.0 mass % of manganese at maximum, and the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate make the ratio of length in the longitudinal direction and the short-length direction at least 15 in a mutually superposing region.
