<p>The invention relates to a method for determining the frequency spectrum of a sample radiation (1) propagating in the optical waveguide (2) in a forward direction, the radiation of a laser (3) being injected into the optical waveguide (2) in the opposite direction as the pump radiation and causing stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS). The frequency of the pump radiation is modified across a range in which it produces SBS on the spectrum (1) of the sample radiation, the intensity of the Brillouin gain propagating in the forward direction being measured by means of a detector (7). The output signal of the detector (7) is registered depending on the modified frequency of the pump radiation (3) and the intensity variation is used to determine the frequency of the sample radiation (1).
