A method of combusting a very low cetane number material comprises injecting said material into a combustion chamber and supplying to the chamber combustion air at a temperature substantially above ambient for substantially the entire duration of the combustion process. In a preferred embodiment the combustion chamber is a cylinder of a diesel engine. Other aspects of the invention provide a diesel engine for use in the method, and method of using the engine to combust fuels. |
