<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical retardation film such that a three-dimensional refractive index and a wavelength dispersion characteristic of a phase difference can simultaneously be adjusted and further a luminance-improving film capable of improving a visual angle characteristic. <P>SOLUTION: The optical retardation film is formed by laminating an homeotropically-aligned liquid crystal film (1) and a stretching aligned film (2) in one body and a homogeneously aligned liquid crystal film obtained when the material of the homeotropically aligned l iquid crystal film (1) is homogeneously aligned satisfies an expression Δ<SB>xy</SB>×d(450 nm)/Δn<SB>xy</SB>×d(550 nm)>1.05 for a wavelength dispersion characteristic of a front phase difference. Further, the stretching aligned film (2) satisfies a wavelength dispersion characteristic of Δ<SB>xy</SB>×d(450 nm)/Δn<SB>xy</SB>×d(550 nm)<1.05.
