PURPOSE: An apparatus for processing a digital image and a method for controlling the same are provided to improve the convenience of a user by executing a user-friendly user interface. CONSTITUTION: If an operation sate of a digital image processing apparatus is in an idle state, a control unit reads out an appointed user-defined file(S420,S430). The control unit inspects the user-designated file(S440), and designates a new file as the user-designated file if the user-designated file is not unable to be reproduced(S460). If the user-designated file can be reproduced, the control unit reproduces the user-designated file(S470).
