PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm (recognize) the state of a magnetic field generating part such as coil, without increasing cost. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a heat fixing device 20 having a heat generating member 20d that heats and fixes toner to a recording medium by induction heating through a magnetic field and a sensor 20a that is disposed in an area to be affected by a magnetic field generated by a coil 20c generating the magnetic field and outputs a detection signal including noise due to the magnetic field when the area is affected by the magnetic field; and a control means which compares a detection signal outputted from the sensor 20a with a predetermined signal pattern A for an operating state in which the coil 20c is generating magnetism and if the detection signal and the signal pattern A are matched, performs control so as to give information indicating that the coil 20c is in the operating state.
