<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external facing material such as a roof material or a wall material excelling in heat insulating function while having sufficient windproof strength and moreover easy to construct. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A vertically laid external facing material comprises plate members each formed by laminating a waterproof layer and a heat insulating material layer sequentially on the back face of a rectangular metal plate, and a clip for connecting and fixing a plurality of plate members to a backing. The clip includes: a return piece formed by bending an upper part of a clip body to project horizontally or below the horizontal level to at least one side of front and rear sides; a locking piece formed by bending a body intermediate end to project almost horizontally to at least one side of the front and rear sides; and a fixed part formed by bending a body lower part so as to be parallel with a backing surface. At least one side part which is a side part of the plate member and adjacent to the connected plate member is provided with a rising part fittable between the return piece and locking piece of the clip, and a ventilating groove is provided between the waterproof layer and the heat insulating material layer.
