The system has a heavy part (2) i.e. rail part, extending in a movable direction. Ferromagnetic supporting disks (1) of a vehicle have permanent magnets (20, 21), whose magnetization direction exhibits axial direction that is opposite to magnets that are proximity in a circumferential direction. The heavy part has a pole structure provided along the movable direction such that the propelling force is produced at the pole structure, during rotation of the magnets. The structure has steel areas or areas made of ferrite-contained material. The disks are driven by synchronous motor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a drive system.
