METHOD AND APPARATUS OF UPDATING FOR SYSTEM INFORMATION IN A BROADBAND WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for updating system information in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to prevent power consumption of a terminal by not decoding and updating system information transmitted through an SFH. CONSTITUTION: When there is no difference between a received S-SFH CC(Secondary Super Frame Header Change Count) value and a stored S-SFH CC value, a terminal omits decoding for all S-SFH IEs(S1105). When the different between the two values is 1, the terminal compares the stored S-SFH CB(Secondary Super Frame Header Change Bitmap) with a received S-SFH CB(S1109). The terminal decodes and updates an S-SFH SP IE(Secondary Super Frame Header Sub Packet Information Element) corresponding to a toggled bit location(S1111).
