<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a home appliance control protocol support device which has a good handleability to the user. <P>SOLUTION: A hard disk recorder compatible with a CEC function is connected with a TV receiver set via a HDMI cable. The hard disk recorder has a setting information transceiver for receiving a setting item control command including setting information from the TV receiver set, and an item information setter for performing an automatic setting operation on a setting item for its own device on the basis of the setting information included in the command. The hard disk recorder, when performing the automatic setting operation, determines permission or non-permission of the setting item included in the setting item control command received from the TV receiver set (S11). When determining permission of the automatic setting (YES in S12), the hard disk recorder performing the automatic setting operation of the setting item on the basis of setting information in the setting item included in the setting item control command with use of the item information setter (S13).
