PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically set the proper system environment for acquiring the characteristics of the sample of the object for observation. SOLUTION: In one embodiment, the microscopic observation system 1 is provided with: an observation unit 3 observing a sample using a microscope; an observation system control unit 3 controlling the operation of the observation part 3; and a characteristic data memory unit 7 memorizing characteristic data decided in accordance with the attribute value showing the attribute of the sample per attribute value. Then, in the observation system control unit 5, the characteristic data selection unit 542 selects at least one characteristic data in accordance with the attribute value of the observation stained specimen designated by a stained specimen attribute designation unit 541 from the characteristic data memorized in the characteristic data memory unit 7. Then, a characteristic data analysis unit 543 analyzes the selected characteristic data, and a system environment set unit 544 sets a system parameter for setting the operating environment of the observation unit 3 when the observation stained specimen is observed based on the analyzed result.
