PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of more accurately detecting toner consumption with simple configuration. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image forming section 2 which forms an image on a paper with toner; a gray scaleγcorrection processing section 332 which performs gray scaleγprocessing of image data through the use of a gray scaleγcorrection table; a pseudo gray scale processing section 333 which performs pseudo gray scale processing using a screen with respect to the output image data which has been subjected to the gray scaleγcorrection processing by the gray scaleγcorrection processing section 332; a density correction processing section 334 which allows the image forming section 2 to form a density patch on an intermediate belt 10 using the screen, and performs the density correction processing to correct the gray scaleγcorrection table on the basis of the density of the density patch formed on the intermediate belt 10; and a counting section 335 which calculates the consumption of developer on the basis of the image data which has yet to be subjected to the gray scaleγcorrection processing by the gray scaleγcorrection processing section 332.
