<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for applying even a coating solution, of which the viscosity is especially high in a region low in the shearing speed of the coating solution, by a gravure coater while suppressing a coating amount distribution and controlling the physical properties of the coating solution. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The coating solution is supplied from a supply port 24 along the base on the downstream side of the rotary direction of the gravure roll 12 of a liquid receiving pan 21 inclined toward the upstream side of the rotary direction of the gravure roll 12. The coating solution in the liquid receiving pan 21 flows in one direction toward the upstream side from the downstream side of the rotary direction of the gravure roll 12.
