<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve accuracy of recognizing characters from a character image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image processor is provided with: a memory for storing a document image; a pre-processing part for generating a character image by performing predetermined image processing on the document image read from the memory; a pattern generation part for generating a plurality of different character patterns by performing predetermined image processing on the character image; a feature extraction part for extracting feature data from each of a plurality of character patterns; and a similarity calculation part for calculating the similarity between the plurality of feature data and the feature data of characters stored in the recognition dictionary, and for selecting the characters whose similarity is high from the recognition dictionary.
