<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image deterioration associated with unmatching with peripheral macroblock (MB) even if H. 264/AVC coding system is applied. <P>SOLUTION: In a method of coding image, (a) prediction processing is executed, and (b) the execution results and mb<SB>_</SB>type information for designating a mode to be used when the target MB is coded are outputted in the prediction processing. (c) The information for indicating whether or not the peripheral MB is coded by I<SB>_</SB>PCM mode is stored in a register. (d) The target MB and peripheral MB resulted from the execution of the prediction processing are away by nMB (n is a natural number), and the mode designated as mb<SB>_</SB>type information is changed from P<SB>_</SB>Skip to P<SB>_</SB>L0<SB>_</SB>16x16 if the peripheral MB as the information stored in the register is coded by I<SB>_</SB>PCM mode and P<SB>_</SB>Skip mode is represented by the mb<SB>_</SB>type information.
