<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic original feeding device equipped with a stack part which is used both during performing both-sides original reading processing and during one-side original reading processing, and to provide an image reader. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The automatic original feeding device includes: a paper feeding means 11 for separating an original placed on an original mounting platen one sheet-by-one sheet and feeding the separated sheet; a conveying means 12 for conveying the fed original to a reading position for reading an image on one side of the original and generating read-out image data; a reversing means 13 for reversing the original whose image has been read at the reading position; a discharging means 14 for discharging the original whose image has been read at the reading position to the stack part; and a control means 10 for executing either both the sides original reading processing for discharging to the stack part the original whose image on one side has been read at the reading position and subsequently, whose image on the other side has been read at the reading position, or the one-side original reading processing for discharging the original whose image on one side has been read at the reading position to the stack part.
