The method involves constantly and automatically detecting and recording operating data of a vehicle i.e. lorry (1), and evaluating the recorded operating data. The evaluated operating data is compared with before detected standard or reference operating data. The result of the comparison is represented on a vehicle-sided display (9) that is arranged in a field of vision of a driver of a motor vehicle. The detected operating data are transmitted to a central office (6) and a central computer (7) over a telematic module (4).
