A map information processing device comprises a map information storage section (23) which stores map information, a sensor information input section (22) which inputs sensor information for use in calculation of current position; a navigation processing section (25) which calculates a current position based on the map information which is read from the map information storage section and the sensor information inputted from the sensor information input section, calculates the number of continuous tunnels existing within a predetermined distance ahead of a tunnel which is indicated by the map information when it is judged that the calculated current position indicates the entry of a vehicle into the tunnel shown by the afore-said read map information, and creates a map image including the calculated number of tunnels; and an output control section (26) which outputs the map image created by the navigation processing section (25).
