摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To dynamically adjust the voltage between counter electrodes in a liquid crystal panel, in response to the dynamic changes of the light quantity of an illumination light illuminating the liquid crystal panel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This image display includes a liquid crystal panel for displaying the images of the input image data; and a lighting system to illuminate the liquid crystal panel with the illumination light dimmed, based on the dimming control quantity corresponding to the image data. It has a counter electrode voltage controller that generates a voltage between counter electrodes to input in the liquid crystal panel and supplies it to the liquid crystal panel. This counter electrode voltage controller has a counter electrode voltage setup section, to set up the counter electrode voltage control quantity corresponding to the dimming control quantity, and a counter electrode voltage generator that generates the counter electrode voltage, based on the counter electrode voltage control quantity.
