<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately detect a color defect of an object having a plurality of colors. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the object having the plurality of colors is photographed by a color camera 2, and image data of each color component generated by this photographing is stored in image memories 12, 13, and 14, a CPU 10 associates color images including the three types of image data with reference images registered in reference image memories 15, 16 and 17 in pixel units to determine a color difference between pixels for each set of correlated pixels, and counts the number of combinations of pixels with a color difference exceeding a predetermined threshold.
