A gas-turbine stator 1 has a liner 3 comprising at least one thin, cylindrical or frusto-conical shell arranged therein coaxially with the rotor and mounted substantially in radial alignment with a row of rotor blades 7 by abutment surfaces carried by the stator in axial proximity to said row of blades, which abutment surfaces provide a clearance between the shell and the adjacent part of the stator to allow axial and radially outward expansion of the shell, and said abutment surfaces supporting the shell without clearance between the latter and said abutment surfaces to prevent radially inward movement of the shell. Each liner has a pair of flanges 4 provided with a locating rim 5. The liners are prevented from rotating by pins 8 which engage recesses in the rims 5. The stator and liner are both formed in two parts, the liner parts being separated by gaps 9 which are sealed by two-part guide members 10 secured to the stator by screws 11. In a modification, each liner is provided with one flange having a rim which extends axially therefrom in both directions.
