The device has a coiled spring (2) supporting a body over an upper spring seat (3) on a spring strut top mounting and a thrust bearing (4) on a guide (5). A tensioning unit (12) concentrically pushes the coiled spring, where upper end of the tensioning unit is fixed to a fastening element (21) of the upper spring seat. Relative motion of the upper spring seat is caused by applying axial traction force to an end of the tensioning unit lying opposite to the fastening element, where the tensioning unit is designed as a threaded bolt (20). An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a spring.
