<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing synthesis gas, which has a small pressure loss and the performance of which can be restrained from being deteriorated owing to the pressure loss, and to provide a method for producing synthesis gas by using the catalyst for producing synthesis gas. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for producing synthesis gas is obtained by depositing nickel on a carrier 10 which comprises a spiral cylindrical material 11 wound spirally at predetermined intervals and a supporter 12 joined to the spiral cylindrical material 11 along the axial direction thereof and which is based on magnesia spinel.
