<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device having two or more domains formed in a pixel, preventing, even when a substrate is divided for alignment, a seam from being generated on a display screen, thereby improving yields, and to provide the liquid crystal display device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a pair of substrates facing each other, a liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates, and an alignment layer formed on the surface of at least one substrate on the side of the liquid crystal layer. The pixel has two or more areas different in orientation. The method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device includes an exposure step of dividing the substrate face into two or more exposure areas to expose the alignment layer through a photomask for each exposure area. The exposure step performs exposure such that adjoining exposure areas partially overlap each other. The photomask has a half-tone portion corresponding to the overlapping exposure areas.
