<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handrail lighting device of a passenger conveyor having excellent assembly work efficiency and maintainability while suppressing a feeling of discomfort for a passenger attributable to the heat generation of a ballast even if a ballast is arranged within a handrail of the passenger conveyor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The handrail lighting device includes a handrail deck 10 which has a pair of sidewalls 10a, 10b and guides and supports a movable handrail 5 on its upper part, a main deck 9 for accommodating an electric-discharge light 11, and a ballast 12 arranged in the handrail deck 10. The ballast 12 is fixed to the handrail deck 10 via a ballast supporter 17 arranged in contact with its side surface 22a.
