An indoor unit is provided with: suction openings (2a, 2b) for sucking air; a heat exchanger (6) for subjecting the air, which has been sucked from the suction openings (2a, 2b), to heat exchange; a discharge opening (10) for discharging the air having been subjected to heat exchange by the heat exchanger (6); an air direction changing vane (12) provided to the discharge opening (10) and changing the direction of the air discharged from the discharge opening; and an air conditioning space recognizing device (30) for recognizing conditions within an air conditioning space. Air conditioning operation is performed by controlling air direction changing vane (12) according to the conditions in the air conditioning space which are recognized by the air conditioning space recognizing device (30). Also, the air conditioning space recognizing device (30) is provided on the rear surface side of the air direction changing vane (12), or on the rear surface side of both a movable front surface panel (4) and the air direction changing vane (12).
