PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp not causing blown-out of a metal foil 6 even if the high-pressure discharge lamp is lit for a certain period of time. SOLUTION: The high-pressure discharge lamp is provided with a discharging vessel with a sealing part 5 continuously arranged on both ends of a light emitting part 4, a pair of electrodes 1 of which the tip ends are arranged opposed each other in the light emitting part 4, and a metal foil 6 to which a core rod 7 of the electrode 1 is welded and jointed and which is embedded in the sealing part 5. A void 2 is formed from a surface of the metal foil 6 through inside the core rod 7 due to welding and jointing, and glass composing the sealing part 5 is intruded into the void 2.
