PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based normal temperature curable coating material, with which the lead time in coating can be shortened and production efficiency can be enhanced, and which provides a coating film having excellent performances. SOLUTION: A method for applying the water-based normal temperature curable coating material includes subjecting a metal material 1 such as a casting to a chemical or mechanical pretreatment to obtain a surface state suitable for application of the coating material, then applying the water-based normal temperature curable coating material containing an epoxy resin, red iron oxide, talc, zinc oxide and zinc phosphate on the surface of the metal material 1 to form a coating film 2 having a predetermined thickness, and drying the film by allowing it to stand at normal temperature for a predetermined time.
