PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new filter element that definitely holds distances between pleats without interposing each spacer, and never increases pressure drop as it has no surfaces that are almost perpendicular to an air flow. SOLUTION: The filter element is configured such that the mountains of the pleats formed in a sheet-like filter 2 are folded as opposed to each other, and in its development, it has a crest chip box length line 3 and trough chip box length line 4, and a crest chip box lateral line 5 and trough chip box lateral line 6 in a direction which orthogonally intersect with these lines, has two crest chip box slanted lines 7 connecting a point A<SB>1</SB>on the crest chip box length line, an intersection A<SB>2</SB>of the trough chip box length line 4 and trough chip box lateral line 6 and A<SB>3</SB>, the crest chip box length line between an intersection A<SB>0</SB>of the trough chip box lateral line 6 and crest chip box length line 3 and point A<SB>1</SB>becomes a trough chip box line 4c by folding it back, and it is a folded filter element so as to allow a crest chip box line to be a mountain and allow a trough chip box line to be a valley.
