Interference is typically caused by a frequency inhibitor (103). In this cellular system, the terminals communicate with a base station (101). The method includes at least one modified mobile terminal (105) and a tracking device (102). An interference-detection application is added to the aforementioned terminal (105) which is correctly synchronized and registered in the network, while the tracking device (102) reads and monitors the traffic in the common signalling channels. A DL malfunction is detected upon analysis of abnormal traffic in the common signalling channels of the DL, this abnormality consisting of an unusual number of responses to repeated messages requesting a dedicated channel.
