PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for processing subtitle information that keeps synchronous relationship between displayed information and hidden information, displays subtitle using the displayed information, and provides services that fulfill requests of viewers using the hidden information.

SOLUTION: The apparatus for processing subtitle information has: a broadcast receiving unit that receives information via broadcast wave; a subtitle information extraction unit that extracts subtitle information from the broadcast wave; a subtitle information selecting and extraction unit that selectively extracts displayed information and hidden information from the subtitle information; a display information processing unit that carried out a processing for displaying the subtitle based on the displayed information; and a hidden information processing unit that carries out a processing for providing additional service based on the hidden information. The subtitle information selecting and extraction unit transmits the display information selectively extracted from the closed cation information to the display information processing unit, and transmits the hidden information selectively extracted from the subtitle information to the hidden information processing unit. The display information and the hidden information are included in part of a subtitle information code that is a code string configuring the subtitle information.
