PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compact and high performance linear motor at low cost. SOLUTION: An armature 3 includes a plurality of magnetic pole teeth 31 which are sequentially disposed along a motor drive direction, a drive coil 32 wound to each magnetic pole tooth 31, and a base 33 which comprises a plate-shaped part 330 and a bent part 331, has a cross section substantially in U-shape and extends in a drive direction. The bent part 331 has a joining part 334 in a position in which each magnetic pole tooth 31 is arranged, and each magnetic pole tooth 31 has an engagement part 31a engaged with the joining part 334 at its tip. Then, the plurality of magnetic pole teeth 31 are connected and fixed to the base 33 by the engagement of the engagement part 31a of each magnetic pole tooth 31 with each joining part 334.
