<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus and method, capable of forming a good image by preventing the adhesion of release oil onto the rear surface of a recording medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This inkjet recording apparatus includes: a roller member 88 which rotates in contact with the image recording surface of a recording medium 24 on which the image is formed by inkjet heads 72M, 72K, 72C, 72Y; an oil supply means 89 which supplies oil to the roller member 88, the oil suppressing the adherence of the ink to the roller member 88; and a medium holding means 84 on which the recording medium 24 is held while the roller member 88 on which the oil is deposited is making contact with the recording surface of the recording medium 24. Cleaning sheets are supplied for removing the oil adhered on the medium holding surface of the medium holding means 84, when the size of the recording medium is changed and an image is to be formed on the recording surface of the recording medium 24 of large size compared with the size of the recording medium 24 used before the change of size. Bristow osmotic coefficient to water of cleaning sheets is preferably 0.1[ml/(m<SP>2</SP>msec<SP>1/2</SP>)] to 0.5[ml/(m<SP>2</SP>msec<SP>1/2</SP>)]. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
